There is a story referenced in the Bible (Mark 4:35-41 & Matthew 8:23-27) where Jesus and His disciples boarded a ship to the Gergesenes. While they were on the ship, there arose a great storm. Wind and waves were beating into the ship. The waves covered the ship where it was full of water.
During this horrendous ordeal, the disciples became fearful and thought they were going to die. Jesus was asleep in the back of the ship while all of this was going on. The disciples awoke Jesus and some said, “Master, don’t you care if we die?” Others said, “Lord, save us. We perish.”
Jesus then arose and rebuked the wind and said unto the sea, “Peace, be still.” While He rebuked the wind He asked His disciples, “Why are ye so fearful? How is it that ye have no faith?” and “Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith?”
After Jesus rebuked the winds and the sea, the wind ceased and there was a great calm!
The disciples again feared greatly as they wondered and said to one another,
“What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?!”
Summary:
This passage in the bible is a powerful one. It is an amazing account of the power of our Lord Jesus Christ. Moreover, it is wonderful that the ship they were in didn’t sink; otherwise, the demoniacs on the other side of the sea in the Gergesenes would NOT have been delivered from demonic possession AND oppression!
We must have faith in Jesus Christ NO MATTER what storms we face in life. Trust that He is in control of all things, including, but not limited to, the elements. He has already overcome the world and knows what it takes for you to be an overcomer also.
II Timothy 1:7 states For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. We must stand on God’s word. As Christian believers, we are not supposed to be fearful while the storms of life are raging. We are to exercise the power, love and sound mind that God has given us through His Holy spirit.
Do not lose heart. Do not lose faith. Do not give up on trusting in God. Do not allow the storms of life to discourage you from trusting in God. Stand on the promises of God and allow Him to lead you and guide you. He is consistently praying that your faith fails not! Don’t let your faith fail in Him. It doesn’t matter what the storms look like. Life has MANY storms; however, look at the one who has ALL POWER OVER THE STORMS in His Hands. Know also that Jesus Christ can see the end and the beginning of all storms. Trust Him. There is no storm in the believer’s life that He is not aware of. Know that He is with you always even unto the end of the age and that you have the victory through Him. You are an overcomer through Christ Jesus. Trust Him. Never doubt. Believe Him.
“Peace. Be Still.”-
The following song is entitled “Peace. Be Still.”
The lyrics to the song are as follows:
Peace Be Still
Master, the tempest is raging The billows are tossing high The sky is o’ershadowed with blackness No shelter or help is nigh Carest thou not that we perish? How canst thou lie asleep When each moment so madly is threatening A grave in the angry deep? The winds and the waves shall obey thy will Peace Be Still Whether the wrath of the storm-tossed sea Or demons, or men, or whatever it be No water can swallow the ship where lies The Master of ocean and earth and sky They all shall sweetly obey thy will Peace, peace, be still
I hope you are inspired. May the grace of God be with you always.
